The journey, so far.

Welcome to my new blog. I hope to give you an insight into our journey from ex jockey to trainer.

I'm not going to lie, so far this has been incredibly tough. Not only building the yard but also completing each element of the BHA's requests to become a licensed trainer. I am still yet to gain my license from the BHA but I am nearing the end of the process so fingers crossed I will have the nod very soon.

We had a visit from the yard inspector this week to make sure we have all of the necessary facilities in accordance to BHA legislation. We needed to make sure our health and safety plans were up to scratch and our facilities are suitable to train both flat and jump horses. We will hear the result of this inspection very soon.

As you may or may not know both myself and my wife Lynsey have moved from Newmarket back to my home town in order to start this new business venture. Alongside this big move we have bought our new house in Market Rasen and have our first child, Cooper, who is only 8 months. To say it has been challenging is an understatement. Alongside this we have built our new yard at Nettleton Top on my parents land. The yard is an American style barn and has the most stunning views across Lincolnshire. We are incredibly lucky to be able to have such a facility but we have certainly had to work for it.

When planning the build you cannot appreciate the twists and the turns that you will face along the way. It has been a lot tougher than I could have ever imagined but I cannot wait to get started. With the finishing touches currently taking place and the final elements for the BHA being completed, we hope to be fully licensed with runners by August.

We are taking on horses and owners and would love to hear from you if you are interested in joining our team. We have syndicates available as well as sole ownership. Drop me a line or give me a call and maybe Lynsey and I can show you around Stone Stables!

Until next time,

Olly

The twists and turns always surprise the rider. It is a little tough I agree
